At Support Nest, we’re proud to stand in solidarity with these incredible individuals, striving for a world where every woman is empowered and valued.
Celebrating Women Support Workers
Women support workers play a vital role across various sectors, including healthcare, social services, education, and more. They tirelessly provide care, guidance, and assistance to those in need, whether as nurses, caregivers, counsellors, or advocates. On International Women’s Day, it’s essential to celebrate the compassion, strength, and expertise of these women. Their unwavering commitment to serving others exemplifies true empowerment and solidarity. From offering emotional support to women with disabilities and advocating for inclusive workplace policies, these women inspire positive change and resilience within their communities.
At Support Nest, we advocate for increased recognition, support, and fair compensation for women support workers. We believe their contributions should be acknowledged and valued at every turn, and we’re committed to amplifying their voices and addressing the challenges they face in their professional and personal lives.
Empowering Women with Disabilities
Women with disabilities encounter unique obstacles and barriers to equality, including societal stigma, accessibility challenges, and discrimination. Despite these hurdles, they demonstrate remarkable resilience, creativity, and determination in pursuing their goals. This International Women’s Day, let’s celebrate their achievements and strengths. Whether advocating for accessible infrastructure and inclusive education or challenging stereotypes, these women are catalysts for change and champions of empowerment.
Support Nest is dedicated to promoting inclusivity, accessibility, and equality for women with disabilities. We believe in creating environments where all individuals have the opportunity to thrive and contribute their talents fully. Through advocacy, education, and collaboration, we strive to break down barriers and build a more inclusive society for women of all abilities.
Here’s one inspiring story from Sarah – our Support worker’s experience in caring for and empowering another woman with a disability.
‘I’ve been privileged to work as a support worker for several years now, and one of the most rewarding experiences has been caring for a remarkable woman named Emma. Emma has a physical disability that affects her mobility, but her spirit and determination are truly inspiring.
In my role, I assist Emma with daily tasks such as personal care, meal preparation, and transportation. But it’s more than just practical assistance – it’s about forming a genuine connection and providing emotional support.
One particular instance stands out to me. Emma had expressed her desire to attend a local art exhibition, but she was worried about accessibility issues. Together, we researched the venue, contacted the organisers, and made necessary arrangements to ensure Emma could fully enjoy the experience.
Seeing the joy on Emma’s face as she explored the artwork was incredibly fulfilling. It reinforced the importance of advocating for accessibility and inclusion in all aspects of life.
Throughout our time together, Emma has taught me the power of resilience and the importance of cherishing each moment. As a support worker, it’s an honour to be part of Emma’s journey and to witness her strength and courage every day.’
This anecdote illustrates the meaningful impact support workers can have on the lives of individuals with disabilities, highlighting the importance of empathy, advocacy, and person-centred care.
