Motor neurones are nerve cells that transmit messages to muscles from the brain or spinal cord. Damage to these cells prevents the transmission of messages, resulting in the gradual loss of motor skills, weakness, and muscle wasting.

Does the NDIS Cover Motor Neurone Disease?

Yes! MND is covered by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and you may be eligible for funding to use our support services if you or a loved one suffers from it.

Motor Neuron Disease is eligible for NDIS coverage under List A. To qualify for List A, however, your loved one’s diagnosis must have been classified as severe (for example: assessed as Level 3, 4, or 5 on the Gross Motor Function Classification System – GMFCS). If this is the case, your funding request is likely to be approved. If you do not have a diagnosis of severe MND, you may fall under List B, which requires additional functional assessment prior to NDIS funding approval.
At SupportNest, we can assist you in determining if you or a loved one are eligible for NDIS MND benefits. If you or a loved one meet the eligibility requirements, we are able to provide comprehensive services to improve your quality of life.
