Respite Care

A short break away from home and a change of environment. Our disability respite services are fully equipped and have professional carers ready at hand to provide quality and attentive support.

What is respite

(SHORT TERM ACCOMMODATION)

Respite services or Short Term Accommodation (STA) provides people with a disability a ‘home away from home,’ such as if they need a short holiday, weekend trip, or change in their usual routine. This also allows regular carers and family members to take a small break to attend to important duties.

STA allows you to live in a different environment away from home, living in an accommodation with support workers who provide care to you. With short term respite care services, you can take a well-deserved break, explore a new environment and partake in capacity building activities the accommodation may hold. STA can range from anything such as a weekend trip, overnight stay, or one-on-one care for a certain period of time in place of your regular carer.

We currently have vacant NDIS respite accommodations, which are always well kept, cleaned regularly, and always equipped with support workers that attend to you. SupportNest support workers are trained, qualified and experienced in providing support at our NDIS respite accommodations. Why NDIS respite care?

Everyone needs a break sometimes, especially regular carers who may not have the time to attend to personal duties, relax or travel.
Respite or short term accommodation is a great opportunity for regular carers to relax, and come back feeling refreshed and energised. It can also strengthen the relationship between you and your carer.
A lot of carers also take this time to attend to other important duties whilst their loved one can receive care in a safe environment.

In Home Respite Care

If you prefer staying in your own accommodation, we can also send support workers to your home to provide respite home care.
Our in-home respite care in Melbourne is flexible and personalised. We can offer anything from a couple hours of support in a day, all the way to 24/7 support.

So whatever your needs are, we are confident we can cater to them, just let us know what your concerns and needs are, and will help plan out a suitable and effective care plan for you. We also offer support coordination for participants with more complex needs.

Respite under the NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funds ‘Short-Term Accommodation and Assistance’ under the Core Support category, ‘Assistance with Daily Living’ (Category 1).
The NDIS can fund up to 28 days of STA per year which can be used throughout the year, such as if you only need STA for shorter periods of times, including weekends or for a week or two. You can also use your budget for emergency respite care.
The amount of short term accommodation funding you receive depends on the level of support you require. If you are unsure about how much funding you are eligible for, speak with one of our friendly team members and we can help you. We’ll make sure to find the best respite centre for your needs.
